VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Coalition of Crown Albatross BREAKING NEWSCOALITION OF CROWN ALBATROSS OFFICIALLY FOUNDEDCongressional Hall Approved New Alliance Formation, Completing Zamastan's Exit from the IDUAbove: The Official Flag of the Coalition of Crown AlbatrossIn a sweeping resolution that stunned the International Democratic Union, Zamastan has officially departed the IDU to form the Coalition of Crown Albatross, a new economic and political alliance. Among the nations joining Zamastan in their endeavor to form the new alliance's government are Drambenburg, Avergnon, Vulkaria, Baytonia, and Ruskayn. President Foley Sakzi signed the official documentation that sealed Zamastan's transition after Congressional Hall passed the legislation to do so in a major 497-2-1 vote. Speaker of the Chamber, Larious Maxwell, spoke with reporters following the vote, saying that "today's developments are a positive step in the direction for future progression and prosperity. The International Democratic Union will be missed by all, but the future is bright and we must move towards it." President Foley Sakzi also spoke in a televised address to signal the nation's departure. "Tonight is the end of an era and the beginning of another. We have been and are continuously grateful to the International Democratic Union for their graciousness to us in times of crisis and for their openness for our own influence. Zamastan will always consider the International Democratic Union family. From the tumultuous days of August last year, during the tremors and quakes that destroyed so much, the Union helped us rebuild. Together, in the chaos of the attacks of January 2nd, we banded together. We defeated the terrorists who aimed to destroy us. In so many other moments, we have come together as a true Union. We are forever grateful. To the governments of Laeral, Libertas Omnium Maximus, Gardavasque, Shuell, Lauchenoiria, Trive, United New England, Eiria, Legionas, Sanctaria, and now Xiomera, we do not intend this to be the end, but a progression towards a unique relationship. We will remain in constant contact to keep economic and political deals in tact with however they seem fit. We thank you for all you've given us over the years." VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Avergnon|Drambenburg Summit BREAKING NEWSDECISION REACHED IN DRAMBENBURG-AVERGNON MEDIATION SUMMITBoth sides to stand down and economic blockades to be liftedAbove: Oberkanzlerin (Upper Chancellor) Walde Herzog and Archon of Avergnon, Franz SelleauxArmies in a volatile region of southeast Neria are to stand down and the economic blockade is to be lifted within the time limit of a week, says Zamastanian foreign department officials. Drambenburgian Oberkanzlerin (Upper Chancellor) Walde Herzog and Avergnonian Elected Archon Franz Selleaux met in Tofino on Friday with Zamastanian President Foley Sakzi as the mediating force and Gladysynthian Foreign Secretary Saurius Kent and Baytonian Foreign Secretary Ricky Tradama in attendance as observers. The Drambenburg officials stated their intent to find a peaceful resolution following the massing of Avergnon troops on their southern border in response to a series of violent escalating domestic tensions. Selleaux, determined to keep his country safe from what was perceived to be a threat of attack from both Drambenburg and Tinten, announced that if Drambenburg lifted their long lasting economic blockade, to which the Drambenburgians said they will do, they will remove their forces. They also stated that any Tintenian aggression would result in a breaking of diplomatic ties. Gladysynthia will take a rare stance in helping Zamastan mediate the situation as it unfolds. President Foley Sakzi spoke with the two leaders at his side to the press after the summit, stating that he was glad that cooler heads prevailed. "This is a good day for the peace of the region," the President said, "and a great step forward towards better diplomatic relationships." Reports say that the two leaders had gotten heated numerous times during the discussion, but the presence of Gladysynthian foreign minister Saurius Kent was apparently an important step to deterring the arguments. An official with knowledge of the meeting said that this unexpected presence of a Gladysynthian official may have "proved to show that nations with extreme differences and violent pasts can come together for the good of the world." VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Defense Spending BREAKING NEWSDEFENSE SPENDING TO INCREASE FOR FIRST TIME IN THREE YEARSBlue Conservative Party Passes Major Budget Laws in accordane with Vice-Secretary Foremant's ProposalAbove: A proposed aircraft carrier that is included in the new defense budgetHomeland Security Vice-Secretary, Kathryn Foremant, today announced to the Congressional Hall that the Government would be committing billions more than expected to the Zamastanian Armed Forces over the next number of years, as an increase in the number of aircraft carriers and destroyers was warranted to both replace and expand the current fleet. The announcement came as upset to many in the minority house, most of whom were on the GLP's own benches, as the party has traditionally been known as the more war-weary of the two main political parties. While the Green Liberal Party's policy spokesperson later said that the move was made on the backs of the chiefs of the armed forces, and it was a move the GLP was making with "a heavy heart, as [they] acknowledge these are massive weapons of war", sources within Foremant's office have also indicated that the recent escalations of tensions in Avergnon and Drambenburg, as well as Zamastan position to enforce the peace treaty there, have highlighted potential deficiencies in Zamastan's defence capability. Zamastan's navy, while formidable, is full of ships almost twenty years old in most cases, and the guided missile defense systems are woefully out of the date. The sources continued that they "have no idea" why the Blue Conservative Party did nothing about the situation during their almost 20 years in power under President Cassious Castovia, but they suspect they wanted to leave it for the GLP to "deal with", as defense spending is generally not a crowd pleaser. President Foley Sakzi blasted liberals for insinuating the conservatives "did nothing" in the way of military spending and upgrades, saying that if not for "liberal tightening on funds, the military would be more furnished." Vice-Secretary Foremant, meanwhile, confirmed that not only would the navy be seeing dozens of new ships being built and delivered over the next ten years, the air force and army would also be received hundreds of millions of pounds for more equipment and personnel. It will be the biggest investment in the Zamastanian Armed Forces since the foundation of the state. Political commentators have noted that announcing it so soon after the federalisation referendum was defeated following the transition from the International Democratic Union to the Coalition of Crown Albatross, as well as within their first year of full presidency after former-President Bishop's emergency election in January 2019, suggests that the BCP is well aware of the optics and unpopularity of the move, and they hope the voters will have forgotten by the time the next general election rolls around in 2023. The BCP, who recently announced that scrapping the nation's long-standing tradition of neutrality would be part of their next election manifesto, welcomed Vice-Secretary Foremant's announcement today, though cautioned that focusing mainly on the navy could be to the detriment to the other branches of the armed forces. VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Vulkarian Pass Threat BREAKING NEWSMALVARIAN GOVERNMENT THREATENS ACTION IF VULKARIAN PASS CANAL PROJECT COMPLETESThe C.C.A. Security Council is Debating sending a Task Force to the CanalAbove: The Vulkarian Pass Canal locks are a key shipping route that cuts days of travel off international shipping.Multiple sources in the Malvarian government have declared that military action will be taken if the current expansion projects on the Vulkarian Pass Canal are completed, saying that the new additions to the project will cut hundreds of billions of dollars worth of trade along the southern Ausiana continent. In response, the President of the C.C.A. Security Council, Tyler Guterres of Zamastan, declared that the international community would not stand for the threats, and also stated that the Zamastanian government would be putting extreme sanctions on Malvare. The expansion project in the canal is meant to expand the current canal systems to accommodate more commercial shipping ships at a time, as well as larger and newer classed ships. Much of the funding for the project is coming from Vulkarian taxes set by the government, while there is also funding being poured in from foreign sources, including a Z$500 Million commitment by Zamastanian investments. Malvarian propaganda releases and government statements have sensitized rhetoric against the Vulkarian government, declaring that there will be, quote, "prices to pay" for any extensions that threaten Malvare's own commercial prospects in the way of international shipping lanes. Zamastan and Vulkaria have struggled with insurgent forces in Vulkaria acting on behalf of the Malvarian government for several decades, causing thousands of civilian and military deaths. Knocking out what is perhaps the world's most strategic interoceanic waterway and placing a stranglehold on international commerce isn't really as hard as it might seem, according to an unnamed Zamastanian military official, when viewed from the locks of the Vulkarian Canal. At the western-most point linking the canal to the Samson Ocean, a guide demonstrated how easy it is to gain direct access to the canal by sliding a simple, unlocked deadbolt on a wrought-iron garden gate. Nobody asked for IDs or security clearance. There were no weapons checks. The canal locks were only a few steps away. In fact, for most of its 43-mile length, there is very little separating a sightseer or would-be saboteur from the waterway used by more than 13,000 ships each year to cross between the Toyana and Samson oceans. And that is what is troubling security analysts and military strategists around the world. The Vulkarian Canal is a terrorist's dream come true, according to Zamastanian military officials and international security experts. The canal's vulnerability to attack is so high that Zamastan once maintained more than 20,000 troops to deter aggressors. Analysts say the presence of C.C.A. peacekeeping troops has had a tremendous deterrent effect on would-be saboteurs. Much of the reconstruction efforts will have to include more high-level security installations than what the canal currently possesses. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes

VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Vulkarian Pass Threat BREAKING NEWSBridge Collapse Kills 21 in MoulinsThe C.C.A. Security Council is Debating sending a Task Force to the CanalAbove: A before and after image of the bridge collapse in Moulins, whichA bridge in the heart of Moulins, the Redeemer's Land Provincial city of 300,000 people, collapsed on Wednesday, killing 21 people as dozens of vehicles and tons of concrete and steel plunged onto city streets below in a disaster that prompted an emergency review of the province's aging infrastructure. Marcus Sakin said he had just finished his shift at the city’s garbage collection company when “I heard something like an explosion and a screech of iron, and in a second we were all covered by a cloud of dust.” Mr. Sakin went outside, and with his smartphone he started broadcasting the scene on social media. “I immediately thought of the victims; I held my tears, with difficulty,” he said. “We were impotent, we didn’t have the means to help those who remained underneath.” He said two of his colleagues had been killed. Long before the collapse, experts warned that the structure was deteriorating and possibly dangerous. The highway bridge fell by as much as 148 feet just before noon, taking about three dozen cars and three trucks with it, according to Damian Borrelli, chief of the Civil Protection Department in Redeemer's Land Province. The calamity presented a serious test of Redeemer's Land's new provincial government, a coalition of populist parties that was formed only months ago. They rode to power on a wave of anti-establishment anger against President Foley Sakzi and the Blue Conservative coalition that has a major majority in Congressional Hall, but the coalition is led by people who had little to no experience governing, and now must demonstrate that they can manage a crisis and the scrutiny that comes with it. President Foley Sakzi traveled to the scene of the disaster. The office of Moulin's public prosecutor said it would open a criminal inquiry, examining whether the collapse was because of negligence, and federal authorities indicated that they, too, would investigate. Brandon Tonello, the Zamastanian Secretary of Transportation, said the government had ordered a comprehensive safety review of Redeemer's Land's infrastructure — including viaducts and bridges built in the 1950s and 1960s during the country’s main economic boom. Much of the infrastructure, he warned, was showing signs of age. “This is what Zamastan needs to do, now,” he said. In a phone interview, Stephen Rachelina, director of the Institute for Construction Technology for Zamastan's National Research Council, said that most of the nation’s infrastructure “needs to be carefully re-examined” because much “was at the end” of its useful life span. He added, “In some cases it can be reinforced, in other cases it will have to be demolished and rebuilt completely.” Mr. Rachelina said that civil and structural engineering projects in Zamastan were complicated by a national patrimony that dates to antiquity. “Our position, typically, is to try and conserve rather than demolish and rebuild, as happens in other countries,” he said. The collapse of the Moulins bridge was a serious alarm, he said, “because it is not an isolated case — in the last three years, a number of bridges have collapsed in Zamastan, and they are all around 50 years old.” Albert Daccii, a lecturer at the University of Duncan and an expert on floods and landslides, said “significant urbanization” of the city’s flood plains along with, at times, irrational urbanization, led to channels being narrowed and streams diverted. The result, he said, was a situation where flooding became more common, especially as the intensity of downpours has grown in recent years. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes

VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Record Setting Rain BREAKING NEWSFlood Warnings In Effect for Redeemer's LandRecord-Setting Rain Levels Threaten Low-lying River Valley and Delta TownsAbove: Historic flooding in the town of Blairmore, Redeemer's Land, along the Abagene RiverStates of emergency have been declared for the Administrative District of Redeemer's Land as flash floods forced residents to flee their homes and emergency crews to close down several roads, one day after heavy rain was blamed for a bridge collapse in Moulins that claimed 21 people. Residents of Coleman and Blairmore were asked to leave their homes by police early Thursday morning as water levels of the Abagene River and its tributaries suddenly rose, breaching their banks. Blairmore suffered the brunt of the flooding as a major tributary of the Abagene River sent water pouring into the town. "Lyons Creek went over its banks this morning, and flooded the surrounding neighborhood" said Brian Gallant, Councillor for the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass. Gallant reported flooding several feet deep along downtown Blairmore as waters continue to rise. According to Gallant, the flooding was caused when debris, including several large logs, piled up against a small railway bridge just north of 20 Avenue. The debris blocked the water flow, spilling over its banks. The fast moving water eroded the bridge abutments, causing severe damage to the railway line. Trains were stacked up for several hundreds of kilometers as railway authorities were forced to close the line down. Gallant reported several surges since the flooding began, bringing even more water for exhausted crews to contend with. In a press release issued by the municipality, Crowsnest Pass mayor Bruce Decoux stated that several homes in Blairmore in the vicinity of Lyons Creek have been evacuated. Renee Hackney with ESRD stated that more than 100 millimeters of rain has fallen in the Oldman River basin since Wednesday morning, with local amounts exceeding 200 millimeters. She said that more rain is expected to fall on the watershed today, with an additional 40 to 80 millimeters of rain expected by Friday. The Oldman River dam's floodgates are completely open in an attempt to increase water flows. Hackney said that areas of the Oldman River downstream of the Oldman river dam are under a flood warning, with areas upstream of the dam are under a flood watch. Zamastanian authorities are urging residents of Crowsnest Pass to be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. Evacuated residents are being housed at an emergency shelter at the Coleman Sportsplex. A local state of emergency was declared in areas south of Beaver Mines towards the Castle Protected Area in the M.D. of Pincher Creek. Fire crews in Pincher Creek and Beaver Mines spent early Thursday dealing with flooding southwest of Pincher Creek. Crews had to perform a water rescue of a woman and a dog trapped in their home by riding flood waters when the Beaver Creek breached its banks. Parts of Highway 774 and several farms were flooded, but authorities report that water in the Beaver and Screwdriver creek are receding. Water levels are also abnormally high in the Castle River Valley. Zamastan's western districts face annual flooding in the late winter-spring season due to the melting of ice and snow from the mountains, but reent years have brought more devastating flooding as a whole. Last year, more than 50 people died and over 300,000 displaced when flooding struck the low-lying Emerald-metropolitan area. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes

VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: World Cup First Round BREAKING NEWSZAMASTAN WINS FIRST GAME 2-1 AGAINST ELLYERSVALTTwo Late Game Points Solidify Quarter-Final Placement - Zamastan Will Play LLihc NextAbove: Zamastan's left-forward James Irran (right) celebrates with goalie Terry Kurbaina (left) following his game-winning goal against Ellyersvalt in the 2020 Heimdahl'ia World Cup. Irran scored both of Zamastan's two goals during the game, with Kurbaina having eight saves. In a dramatic soccer game to open Zamastan's placement in the World Cup, being hosted in Heimdahl'ia, Gladysynthia, Zamastan clung onto the rival Ellyersvalt national team through tough defense all the way into the end, breaking a dead-locked tie in the last few minutes to clinch a spot in the quarter-finals. An early 17' shot by Ellyersvalt corner Timothy W'Qa put them up 1-0 for long into the game, until Zamastanian left-forward James Irran put a kick into a curve over Ellyersvalt's goalie at 63'. The last dozen minutes of the game were a defensive miracle and offensive nightmare for both sides as they struggled to keep the game from going into overtime shootouts. However, with three minutes left, Irran scored once again, putting Zamastan up 2-1. With that, Zamastan's defense proved too much for their rivals, who were unable to tie the game in the last several minutes with two solid blocks from goalie Terry Kurbaina. Zamastan will advance to play Llihc in the quarter-final round and try to nab another victory to move onto a semi-final placement. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes

VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Sen. Wolffe Joins Presidential Race BREAKING NEWSSenator Adam Wolffe Announces Bid For PresidentWolffe, the Senator for Jade District 6, is a rising star in the GLPAbove: Senator Adam Wolffe (Jade, Green Liberal Party), announces his bid for PresidentSenator Adam Wolffe of Jade announced his candidacy for President of Zamastan on Saturday to an energetic crowd. The 39-year old senator is a rising star in the Green Liberal Party, known for his charm, youth, as well as his records for legislation. He is responsible for introducing several bills in Congressional Hall aimed at increasing rights for women and those with disabilities, including an amendment to the 1983 Equality Act to establish nationwide maternity leave for mothers that passed Congress in a rare unanimous vote. He's also known for being an outspoken critic of gun violence, and served as one of the leading coordinators with President Bishop in August 2019 on passing legislation that outlawed automatic weapons in Zamastan. "My record speaks for itself," Wolffe said to the crowd during his announcement, "I will fight for the rights and lives of every Zamastanian. I will fight for you, regardless of economic status, gender, creed, race, or background. If you've been hurt by the system, I will fight to help you. If you have been the victim of an abuser, I will fight to mend the wounds." He has been known for his bi-partisanship, much like President Foley Sakzi. However, Senator Wolffe has been one of Sakzi's most outspoken critics in the course of his administration. Where most senators on the GLP sided with the Conservative President on issues surrounding military action in Vulkaria following the 1/2/20 Attacks, Wolffe was one of the few who spoke out against the military use in Vulkaria. Even more recently, he has blamed Sakzi for introducing tax cuts during a drop in market oil prices, which economists warned that cuts might lead to a further decline in economic growth. Among Wolffe's proposals is an approval for complete unrestricted abortions. Under mandates currently accepted by Zamastan's universal healthcare system (passed by President Elene Abotsford in 1976), late-term and third trimester abortions are banned unless there is serious threat to the life of the mother. Blue Conservative Party legislatures have repeatedly stopped Green Liberal Party propositions for full-abortion passages to be added to legislation surrounding the universal health care. Experts say that this will likely be one of the most pressing issue in the election, which is on September 22nd, 2020. Senator Euan Gunn and Former-Speaker of the Chamber Cain Blackwater are also vying for a spot in the GLP's bid for the nomination. The first round of party-debates are on April 10th. VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Titania Bomb Removal BREAKING NEWSWorld War Era Bomb Found in Downtown TitaniaThe bomb, dropped by a Drambenburgian bomber in 1952, was detonated offsite in a controlled explosionAbove: The unexploded bomb was moved to an offsite location and detonated in a controlled setting.Police have evacuated a number of streets in central Titania after an unexploded World War bomb was discovered. The device was found near Titania's Dean Street by construction workers and police were called at 1:42 p.m. local time on Monday, the Metropolitan Police said. Thousands of workers were told to leave their buildings and police expanded a cordon across a number of streets in the busy neighborhood. Dozens of police officers were limiting access to the area. "We came out of the office and were told to move. No time limit at all was given -- it was just 'get out of the office' immediately. Within five minutes we all had to go." Dean Street is a lively part of the eastern Zamastanian city, housing a number of businesses, restaurants and bars in the downtown district. Around two hours after the device was found, police were telling workers at several of the neighborhood's shops and offices to leave work and move away from the area. They also blocked off a number of streets not initially included in the cordoned-off zone. An employee at Hammer House, on Wardour Street, told The Tofino Times: "I saw the cordoned-off area with the police, so I ran back upstairs and said we need to leave." "We just ran out ... at the beginning people were worried, but now we're more settled." A large, 250-kilogram (550-pound) WW bomb was discovered in east Titania in 2015, but such devices are rarely uncovered in the city. During the war, Drambenburgian air raids dropped more than 12,000 metric tons of bombs on the city and killed nearly 10,000 Titanians, according to the Zamastan World War Museum. Coach of the Zamastanian team, Howard Funtrey, spoke to the Tofino Times following the game. "This wasn't the outcome we wanted, but we played one of the best teams in recent years, coming off some incredible feats of sportsmanship, and we're honored to have gotten another good run. Jefferson's team is extraordinary, we haven't played such a tough opponent in years." Zamastan won the World Cup last year in Emerald, capping a record of thirteen world cup wins. VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Bombing at Metro Station BREAKING NEWSBOMBING STRIKES TREGUEUX METRO STATION, KILLING 32RESPONSIBILITY CLAIMED BY JAGINISTAN TERROR GROUP AL-FIJARAbove: Security forces patrol the area around the Tregueux Metro Station after a bombing killed 32 people.A suicide attacker set off a bomb in the entrance hall of Tregueux's primary train station on Sunday, investigators said, killing 32 people and injuring dozens more. Authorities said the attacker detonated a shrapnel-filled bomb in front of a metal detector just inside the main entrance of the station in Tregueux, the southern Zamastanian city. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the terror group Al-Fijar, a Jaginistan-based insurgent group with long simmering tensions with the Zamastanian-backed Jaginistan governemnt. Islamist militants in Jaginistan have carried out a long string of attacks since President Talaal al-Ayub came to power in 2014. They have declared fatwa's against nations that back his government, specifically Zamastan, Avergnon, and Cadair, who helped overthrow the Beleroskov-backed regime in 1992. This is only the second attack on Zamastanian soil claimed by Al-Fijar, the first being a bombing in Providence in 2001 that killed one and injured 4. Footage shown on TV captured the moment of the blast, as a massive orange fireball filled the hall of the stately, colonnaded station and clouds of grey smoke poured out of shattered windows. The station was busier than usual, with people travelling home for Lejouron Day, one of the main holidays in the Tregueux and Alenchon Provinces of Zamastan. “People were lying on the ground, screaming and calling for help,” a witness told the Tofino Times. “I helped carry out a police officer whose head and face were covered in blood. He couldn’t speak.” The Zamastanian Intelligence Service and other officials initially said a female suicide bomber had blown herself up after a police officer started to approach her near the metal detector because she looked suspicious. Z.I.S. cited law enforcement sources as saying authorities believed the attacker was a man who brought a bomb into the station with a rucksack. President Sakzi made a statement expressing solidarity with the families of the deceased, promising that justice would be done in accordance with international law and with cooperation with the Jaginistan government. He also warned other nations to be vigilant around transportation hubs such as train stations and international airports. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes

The raid was conducted following days of survailance that led authorities to believe that terrorists linked to Sunday's bombing at the Tregueux Metro Station, an attack that killed 32 people, were inside a home in the Tregueux residential zones. The raid was met with heavy gunfire and multiple small explosives detonating as the occupants of the residence fought back agains tthe incoming security forces, ultimately resulting in three police officers being killed. Num. 6320 | In the News: Mayotte & Aunistria Referendum BREAKING NEWSHISTORIC MAYOTTE & AUNISTRIA REFERENDUM PASSES, GIVING PROVINCES MORE AUTONOMY FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENTTHE PROVINCES HAVE LONG VYED FOR INDEPENDENCE FROM ZAMASTANAbove: A crowd in Blythe, Mayotte, reacts to the passing of the Autonomy referendumThe easternmost provinces of Mayotte and Aunistria have passed a historic referendum in extremely close votes in providential legislatures that grant the provinces greater autonomy from the federal government of Zamastan. The two provinces have long vyed for independence from the rest of the country, with the infamous August Crisis of 1970 ignited by the radical Front de libération du Mayotte (FLM) with a series of bombings and kidnappings. While a total of seven referendums to split from Zamastan entirely have failed since then, a profound social and economic changes through the Quiet Revolution of 2011-12 gave birth to a reignited secular nationalist movement. The sovereignist Mayottean Party was elected in 2011, organizing an unsuccessful sixth referendum on sovereignty-association in 2012. Attempts to accommodate Mayotte nationalism constitutionally through the Louise Lake Accord failed, leading to the formation of the Bloc Mayotte in Mayotte and the invigoration of the Reform Party in the West. A seventh referendum followed in 2013, in which sovereignty was rejected by a slimmer margin of 50.6 to 49.4 percent. In 2014, the Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession by an Administrative District would be unconstitutional and the Clarity of Provincial Secession Act was passed by Congressional Hall, outlining the terms of a negotiated departure from Republic. However, last year, Congressional Hall granted the provincial governments a chance to pass a referendum if the guidelines subtracted complete independence in exchange for greater autonomy on economic standards, education and health practices, and other social changes. On January 5th, 2020, the referendum was officially slated for May 4th. However, a issue with ballot box machines pushed the referendum to Saturday, May 9th. Today's results show an extremely close 51.3-48.5 percent margin (2,718,898-2,581,102) in favor of the Autonomy referendum. Approximately 137,796 votes separated the results. President Foley Sakzi commented on the referendum, saying that his own personal opinion was that he hoped Mayotte and Aunistria would have voted to stay fully connected with the federal government, but stated that he was glad democratic processes prevailed and that he would respect the decision of the people, recognizing their proud heritage as Mayotteans and Aunistrians, as well as his pleasure that they were still homeland Zamastanians. Governor Thomas Braitwhite of Mayotte and Governor Moses Ezekan of Aunistria celebrated together to a crowd of supporters in Blythe, with Braitwhite saying that it was a momentous and historic occassion, while Ezekan strongly affirmed the right to self-determination by the people and voters of both provinces. Opposition leaders in the legislature of Mayotte, such as GLP Senator Garrett Bouchard warned that Governor Braitwhite would use the referendum result as a mandate to declare independence from Zamastan (while explicitly not stating the result would be accepted), and announced that Mayotte would be recognized as a distinct society and that any future constitutional reform that impacted Mayotte would be made with the province's consent. A recent Tofino Times poll shows that 68% of Mayotteans and 76% of Aunistrians still want to remain a part of Zamastan, but that roughly 60% in each province also leans towards the autonomous government status that today's referendum grants them. VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Most Expensive Real Estate Purchased BREAKING NEWSAUNISTRIA ESTATE IS MOST EXPENSIVE PROPERTY EVER PURCHASED; Z$572 MILLIONChâteau Pélican d'Rouge Was Purchased by Former-President and Businessman Zacharias CastoviaAbove: Château Pélican d'Rouge in Aunistria, purchased by former-President and real estate mogul Zacharias CastoviaZ$572 million is the price paid for the most expensive property ever sold anywhere on Iearth. Château Pélican d'Rouge, the famous 18th century country home and palace in Aunistria, was purchased for the mind boggling price tag by former-President and business mogul Zacharias Castovia on Thursday. It was purchased from media businessman Gregory de Castellane, the historical family inheritor from his Drambenburgian ancestors. The lands where an ancient fortress once stood were known as d'Belaneau until the 17th century. They were acquired in the early 16th century by Todd Le Breton, Drambenburg's governor of Aunistria, and a new château was constructed around the original 14th-century keep. The château remained in the Le Breton family for more than two centuries until it was acquired by the Poppaine de Castellane. During the Aunistria Revolution the property was confiscated and in the early 19th century, and the Drambenburgian Emperor acquired it for his brother. In 1896, Sanguine proprietor Joseph Carvallo purchased the property and poured an enormous amount of time, money and devotion into repairing it and creating extremely beautiful gardens. Its famous Renaissance gardens include a water garden, ornamental flower gardens, and vegetable gardens. The gardens are laid out in formal patterns created with low box hedges. In 1934, Château Pélican d'Rouge was designated a historic monument by the Drambenburgian government. It was heavily damaged in the World War (1949-54), and ultimately fell to Zamastanian control when the annexation of Aunistria occured following Drambenburg's surrender. It was reconstructed and renovated heavily by the provincial government and the historic de Castellane family inheritors. Castovia's purchase is one of his most prolific, as other expensive purchases in previous months include a super yacht called the ZCS Utopia Ink which went for nearly a billion dollars. His estate in Tofino is also price-ranked in the hundreds of millions. Castovia, who served as the twelfth president of Zamastan from 2016-2019, is one of the richest people on Iearth with an estimated net worth of Z$60 billion. Castovia is expected to keep the chateau's famed gardens and historical servant and wine-press houses open to public access, but will keep the majority of the chateau's buildings to personal use. VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6320 | In the News: Pipeline Production BREAKING NEWSGOVERNMENT PLANS TO MOVE AHEAD WITH NEW PIPELINE BILATERALLYAfter opposition within the GLP-led opposition, BCP government will circumvent the organizationAbove: The Tesceart pipeline, currently the world's longest, running from the Picotheca Oil Fields in Gladysynthia to Landeda, Zamastan, on the Toyana OceanThe Blue Conservative Party-led government has initiated the process of moving ahead with the controversial Tesceart 2.0 pipeline project without the Green Liberal Party-led opposition's votes for approval. Abandoning previous plans to build the pipeline under the scope of the organization, senior ministers have now confirmed that Zamastan will begin preparations to build the pipeline bilaterally with Gladysynthia. "In the interests of securing Euronia's energy independence, Tesceart 2.0 will be constructed" Petroleum Minister Sean Reanderhaal announced this morning. "This is a critical infrastructure project for the Euronian Community, and the Zamastanian government remains committed to [Tesceart 2.0]". Plans for the pipeline to be supported by the Forrester Oil Company have been abandoned following opposition to the project. Vocal opposition from the Liberal opponents in Congressional Hall as well as provincial governments have seemingly caused the pipeline to change course, instead opting to complete the project bilaterally. BCP Senator Yeras, who introduced and sponsored the pipeline, had hoped to win the backing of the Forrester Oil Company, which approved and contributed to the construction of the existing Tesceart pipeline. Concerns over climate change and the environment scuttled Mr. Yeras' plans after it became clear the Landeda provincial government would block the project. The Zamastanian government has not yet commented on international opposition to the pipeline. Jordan-Lee Shelton, the Minister of International Investment and Cooperation, said the details were still being finalized between the Zamastanian and Gladysynthian governments. "Talks will continue and plans will be finalized in the coming months" Shelton said. The proposed pipeline is planned to run from the Picotheca Oil Sands in Gladysynthia to the Toyana Ocean. It would run parallel to the existing Tesceart pipeline (North-South) which connects Danaska pipelines, located north of Zamastan, to the southern coast. Talks of a second pipeline have been in the works for years, first starting under President Cassious Castovia. The project stalled but picked up steam again in 2019 following the victory of President Bishop's emergency election. See full article here: zkcastor.wixsite.com/thetofinotimes
