11/19/2020ALBATROSS DAY CELEBRATIONS ACROSS THE WORLDNations across Iearth celebrated the 45th Albatross Day, commemorating the anniversary of the Dumbarton Oaks Conference and the signing of the Coalition Charter which established the Coalition of Crown Albatross in 1975. At the C.C.A. headquarters in Zamastan, delegates met and held a toast to mark the occassion, followed by the Coalition pledge and the remarks by Secretary-General Katherine Von Wettin of Drambenburg. The Secretary-General, who is 11 months into her term, said that she was "proud of the community of international states that constitute a devotion to the betterment of our world and our future." The celebrations in Tofino were concluded with an international festival in Embassy Row and fireworks colored blue and purple to honor the colors of the international flag.
In the capital city of Tanin, Ivite, Ivitean President Alceste D'Aboville opened the session of the national Senate by marking the significance of the 45th anniversary, while villages and towns across Ivite had festivals of international cuisine, music, and dances. In North Icadania, celebrations were underway in Marsari tonight, despite the national curfew and continued threats of missile strikes from Syraranto. The North Icadanian delegation to the headquarters of the CCA in Tofino were "ecstatic and happy to be part of this international community."
In Quetana, the Assembly of the Republic opened their session with celebrations and a toast commemorating the 45th anniversary of the founding of the C.C.A.. As a founding member, "Quetana has always been a proud state of the C.C.A. and will continue to be," said President António Brafeo, continuing to say that "institutions like the C.C.A. rarely last so long with relative peace, and we are proud of this international community that we have been adopted as our own."
In Egilanak, the celebrations started off with the opening of the International Museum of Egilanak in Kroyens. Kroyens has one of the largest minorty populations in Egilanak, which contributed to the main reason the Egilanakan government decided to open it there. It features artifacts, films & images from regions all over Iearth and was opened to "celebrate international cultures." It opened following the rising of the Coalition of Crown Albatross flag in front of the building. In Seloysk Beach, a large feast was held featuring dishes from all over Iearth. It opened with a speech by Prime Minister Shor Karimov going over the pleasures of being involved and embracing international cultures and relations. Finally, ending the day in Destelnik, a parade was held down Skeros Street with confetti and a marching band.
In Beleroskov, parades in Koyevka and an address by President Nikolai Ubotrov marked the occassion. Beleroskov, initially the main opponent of the CCA upon its inception, has become one of its largest contributors, despite international condemnation for its surpression of voting rights and civil liberties. In Durnstaal, the Kolspatz held a unanimous toast to celebrate before joining the crowds outside to watch the fireworks displays.
Albarine's National Assembly and Chancellor Sadie Melhaven extended their congratulations and celebrations to the delegates and the member states of the Coalition of Crown Albatross, releasing a statement saying "we are happy to be a part of this amazing community of international states and recognize the significance and importance of diplomacy and international democracy." Chancellor Melhaven also noted the "importance of working towards a more prosperous and unilateral future, citing the ongoing war in Syraranto, tensions between Beleroskov and Ossotia, the illegitimate regimes of Malvare, Great Epsilon, The Sanguine Church, and the growing concerns about human rights abuses in De Yuan. Albarine is committed to creating a better world for all people and freeing the oppressed," and she continued by encouraging allies to also "push for these measures in the future sessions of the CCA".
ALBARINE COMES FACE-TO-FACE WITH DARK HISTORY SURROUNDING LOS GLACIARESLos Glaciares National Park in Albarine receives hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world every year. A World Wonder Site, the park covers an area of 2,800 square miles and includes stunning glaciers, high mountains and beautiful natural scenery. A new study from September 2020 examines the forces that led to its creation. The study traces how the park’s purpose has shifted from being a tool to assert Albarinean sovereignty (and not as much to fulfill conservation goals) to the source of a robust tourism economy. To arrive at these conclusions, the authors examined the regulations and laws governing Los Glaciares, conducted interviews of park workers and top officials in the National Parks Administration, and observed public hearings on land access.
The study begins with the history of the acquisition of the land on which Los Glaciares sits, as it is crucial to understanding the forces that created the park. Los Glaciares is located in Saint Topial in southern Albarine. The expansion of Albarine into this region in the late 19th century followed a brutal military conquest in 1879 called the “Conquest of the Skies.” This violent military conquest led to the murder and removal of the Indigenous Buckinglanese from Saint Topial in what amounts to a genocide. As Mattias Borg Rasmussen, an environmental anthropologist, explained to ACP, Indigenous people were “encamped. They were sent to other parts of the country, so you had this vast open territory… that needed to be resettled.”
Therefore, the Albarine government encouraged the settlement of Adulan and Euronian immigrants and opened the region to a capitalist economy to develop Saint Topial as part of Albarine. As Marcos Mendoza, an anthropologist at the University of Saint Raneau who has also studied the history of Albarine national parks, explained to ACP, the goal was that Euronian farmers would populate the area, cultivate the land and livestock, and sell the commodities on international markets for profit. However, foreign capitalist firms consolidated control over the best lands, so this plan had limited success. Additionally, the landscape was quite “unappealing” and “unromantic” to live in, Mendoza explained.
SERRA LEON GOVERNMENT OPENS INTERNATIONAL MINING CONTRACTSThe government of Serra Leon announced new leases to international mining contracts and corporations for the development and strip collective of gold and silver deposits in the eastern part of the narrow-land country. With the discovery of massive reserves of luxury minerals, including a current drive for the off-shore oil deposits, the government is hoping to become the new international hub for contracting mining. A Karabakhi mining corporation, Karagreen Co., was one of the first to take the chance of profit. Other corporations included Quetsa Mining Corporation and Tiryal Mining, which are Quetanan mining companies.
The move was met with criticism from environmental groups who decried the scaping of Serra Leon's well-known rainforests, calling on the government to halt their expedition to exploit the natural resources by destroying natural beauty.
CLASHES BREAK OUT BETWEEN BELEROSKOVIAN AND OSSOTIAN TROOPS ALONG DISPUTED REJEBAK REGIONBeleroskovian and Ossotian troops clashed in disputed Rejebak, leaving at least 15 people dead, including 10 civilians, and wounding more than 30 on both sides, officials said Thursday. The fighting came amid increasing tensions between the two heavily-militarized South Ausianan neighbors. In a statement, the Beleroskovian military and government officials blamed Ossotia for initiating the fighting by firing rockets and mortar shells overnight and on Thursday that killed four Beleroskovian civilians and one soldier, and wounded 27, including women and children.
Ossotia officials said six civilians, three soldiers and a border guard were killed on their side, according to the ACP. The fatalities were some of the highest reported in recent years. Majan Mirokov, the leader of the Ossotia-administered Rejebak, urged the Coalition of Crown Albatross and international community to take notice, saying he feared a wider conflict.
“If such Beleroskovian hostilities are not stopped, then it will also be difficult to stop a war between Beleroskov and Ossotia,” he said.
Earlier, Beleroskov's military described it as the latest unprovoked cease-fire violation by Ossotia and said Beleroskov troops responded by targeting Ossotian posts. Majan Mirokov said several homes were damaged.
“People are running for safety in panic and Beleroskov is deliberately targeting the civilian population," he told The Associated Coalition Press. Villagers were hiding in community bunkers as the exchange of fire had intensified, he said.
CADAIR AND BIRNIR HOLD PEACE TALKS OVER THE KONKURSO CONFLICTBirnir's President, Morgan Bandalag, arrived in Cardiff, Cadair, on Thursday to meet with Cadairian Leader Waywffon Morgan, at a time when peace negotiations between the Cadairian government and Birnir representatives have stalled and violence is rising in Konkurso.
This will be Bandalag's first visit to Cadair since assuming office. It is the highest profile visit by a Birnir official to Cardiff since peace talks began between two powers, and it comes days after the Zamastanian Defense Department announced it would reduce the number of Zamastanian military personnel in Cadair from 4,500 to 2,500 by mid-January as a way to ease tensions between the Birnir-Cadair conflict.
The conflict-ravaged island of Konkurso "risks becoming a platform for international terrorists to plan and organize attacks on our homelands," Cadairian Mab Darogan Morgan said. "Focus would be on further deepening the fraternal bilateral relations between Birnir and Cadair, the Konkurso peace process, and regional economic development and connectivity," Cadair's foreign office said in a statement as delegates met in Cardiff.
